A Hebrew Spelling Game Built on Real Words
Hebrew Word Builder is a free hebrew spelling game: you get a word's meaning and its audio, and you put its letters in order, right to left, from a tray of shuffled tiles. It works like a hebrew word scramble, except every puzzle is a real everyday word and the game checks the exact spelling, final forms included.
New words start in guided mode, with the Hebrew shown so you can copy it. Once you have built a word correctly twice, it moves to recall and you spell it from the English and the audio alone. For background reading alongside the game, see our Hebrew alphabet guide.
How Hebrew Word Builder Works
See the meaning
Each word starts with its English meaning and native-speaker audio. New words get a preview card first, with the Hebrew spelling and full niqqud.
Build it right to left
Tap the shuffled letter tiles to fill the slots from the right, exactly as Hebrew is written. Tap a placed tile to send it back. The last letter checks the word.
Finish the round
A round is 8 words from one theme and takes about 2 minutes. Get one wrong and the tiles slide into the correct order, with niqqud and audio, before you move on.
Why It Works
Spelling, Not Just Spotting
Recognising a word is one skill; writing it is the next. You choose every letter and put it in order yourself, including the final forms ך ם ן ף ץ.
From Copying to Recall
New words show the Hebrew so you can copy it. After two correct builds, a word moves to recall: only the English and the audio, and you spell it from memory.
Decoys That Teach
Recall rounds add one or two extra tiles, never random ones: the regular partner of a final letter (מ or ם) or a look-alike letter such as ד and ר.
No Timer, No Coins
Hints, shuffles and audio replays are free and unlimited. Three hearts give you room for mistakes, and the first two rounds have no hearts at all.
What You'll Learn
Hebrew Word Builder covers 184 everyday Hebrew words across 13 themes, from family and food to weather and transport. You pick a theme on the home screen; Family, with its short words, is marked as the place to start. Every word has native-speaker audio and is shown with full niqqud once you have built it.
This game assumes you already know most Hebrew letters. If you're still learning them, start with Alef Bet Rush or Hebrew Mahjong, then continue with grammar and sentence-level reading in the HebrewEdu app.
Who It's For
Hebrew Word Builder is for adults and teens who can read the Hebrew letters and want to start writing real words, for bar and bat mitzvah students, and for anyone learning modern Hebrew. It uses the same word list as Hebrew Word Search, so the two work well together: find a word's shape there, then spell it here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hebrew Word Builder free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no account, download or payment, and there are no coins or paid hints.
Do I need to already read Hebrew?
You should know most of the Hebrew letters. If you are just starting out, try Alef Bet Rush or Hebrew Mahjong for the aleph-bet first, and Hebrew Word Search to meet your first words.
How many words can I practise?
184 everyday Hebrew words across 13 themes, such as family, food and animals, each with native-speaker audio and niqqud.
Do the tiles show niqqud (vowel marks)?
No. The tiles carry plain letters, so you practise the spelling itself. The full word with niqqud appears on the preview card and after every build.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. On a computer, type a Hebrew letter to place its tile, press Backspace to take the last one back, or move between tiles with the arrow keys and place one with Enter or Space.
What happens if I run out of hearts?
You get 3 hearts per round, and 5 correct words in a row restore one. If you lose them all, Try again brings back the same 8 words with freshly shuffled tiles.
